Congratulations, you have taken the first step in your waxing journey. On this information sheet, I will answer some common questions and concerns that people ask prior to waxing for the first time.
Q: How long should I let my hair grow?
A: We generally recommend 2-3 weeks for growth. However, the time period will be different for everyone, because some hair grows faster than others. The hair should be approximately the length of a grain of rice or ¼-½ inch.
Q: I haven't shaved in months, is my hair too long?
A: No. The hair will never be too long to receive a waxing service. We may use trimmers to trim back the hair if it is extra long, but do not try to trim it yourself at home.
Q: Does it hurt?
A: When hair is waxed, it is completely removed from the hair follicle. There will be some discomfort with the removal process. If you have a low pain tolerance, you may choose to take an over-the-counter pain relief medicine 30-45 minutes before your service.
**Please seek medical advice from your doctor before taking any medication**
Q: How long will a wax last?
A: Everyone is different! Most generally people will experience 3 weeks of smooth skin before the new hair starts growing back in.
Q: Does the hair grow back?
A Unfortunately, the hair will eventually grow back. However, waxing weakens the hair follicle, and less hair will grow with each wax. If you receive regular waxing also appointments every 4-8 weeks, the hair will grow back less each time. You will notice less hair growing. Once you stop waxing regularly, it will eventually regain thickness.
**This is not a permanent hair removal option**
Q: Will I still have bumps and prickly hair after waxing?
A: When you choose waxing as your form of hair removal, you completely eliminate razor burn as a concern. Did you also know the hair will NOT be prickly? With shaving, the hair is cut as the surface of the skin. Two days later, your hair comes back in prickly. With waxing, the hair is removed from the hair follicle under the skin. When that hair comes back three weeks later, it will be soft and thin. Say goodbye to razor burn and prickly skin
After receiving a waxing service, it is extremely important to follow proper after-care measures to ensure the best possible outcome.
For the next 24-48 hours
• No swimming, hot tubs, saunas, or extensive amounts of heat or sweating, chemicals could cause a severe adverse reaction.
• No touching - keep freshly waxed skin clean, cool and hydrated. Wash your hands before touching.
• Wear loose fitting clothing, and avoid extremely tight fabrics. 100% cotton fabric is recommended.
• Avoid lotions, oils, cleansers, etc. that contain fragrance/perfume. Fragrance-free products are highly recommended to avoid irritation.
• Apply after care treatment of choice to soothe the skin and prevent irritation, infection, and ingrown hairs.
• Exfoliate at least 3 times a week to keep skin smooth and prevent ingrown hairs.
Recommended products: Exfoliating Gloves and/or Zandi-K Deck Scrub. Do not exfoliate until our skin has completely returned to normal(no redness), at least 3 days (or more) after your waxing service.
• Moisturize the area on a regular basis and especially prior to your next appointment. Dry skin has a tendency to lift while waxing. Additionally, dry hair has a tendency to break during waxing. If the hair breaks, it does not remove the hair from the follicle. Hair that breaks off, will reappear to the surface within days (versus 3 weeks when it is removed from the follicle). Recommended products: Zandi-K Deck Polish and/or Finipil.
• Do NOT shave. Hair has to be ¼ of an inch in order to be waxed. If you shave prior to your appointment, the hair may not be long enough at your appointment.
We may have to reschedule your appointment if the hair is not long enough.
• Return for your next appointment within 8 weeks to receive a regular client discount. We recommend booking your next appointment as soon as possible, and allowing 2-3 weeks for scheduling.
